ABOUT ME

My name is Liza, I was born and raised in Paris, France, and now live in New York City with my husband and four children.

My older son is 12, my daughter is almost 10, and my two younger boys are 5 and 2.

I first came to New York a few days before the Twin Towers collapsed on September 11, 2001, met my husband later that year and… here I am. After a few years of back-and-forth, I settled in Manhattan for good and have been living here full-time for almost fifteen years.

I teach French in a small Liberal Arts college in the New York area. But really, for the past twelve years, I have spent most of my time at home with my children - something that my twenty-something self would never have quite believed.

This site is mostly an attempt at making sense of this chaotic, exhausting and rewarding home life. It is loosely organized around cooking but has more to do with the ups and downs of motherhood and sharing a life with unpredictable little humans.

The madeleine is a nod to Proust, yes – the guy I was writing about while buried in libraries, all those years before I had children. It is also, mostly, about childhood and the old-school French spirit I try to keep alive in my Manhattan kitchen.

For more details on this madeleine business and how this blog came about, see here

Except for the homepage madeleine picture, all photos are mine unless indicated otherwise.
