I don't have much of a post today, but couldn't resist sharing these beauties from Maman NYC. My boys barely touched the donuts, and declared that the cookies would not be good. These children have lost all sense of propriety. But I'm sure my teenagers, and husband, will show more deference to these silly little treats.
I've never been a Valentine's Day person - it was never really celebrated in France when I was growing up. I did notice decorations and Valentine's pastries last year in Paris, but it still wasn't as much of a thing as it is here. And when my children got off the school bus today, I was just reminded, the hard way (i.e. through recrimination) of how kids in school prepare Valentine's Cards or small gifts for the whole class. Hello ???? Who ever thought of that? No French mom in her right mind would ever think of doing something like that. Whoever came up with that idea must have thought that mothers did not have enough on their plate already? This is sheer madness, in my opinion. When my older kids were in preschool and elementary school, I don't remember it being a tradition. It seems to have developed over the past five to ten years? Whatever happened in the classrooms, I do not approve of it. Were children begging for Valentine's from all their classmates ? At three years old? I think not. And what's the point of a special Valentine's card if everybody writes one? Anyway. I don't think I need to go on, but you get the point.
Please moms, enjoy your evening with your special someone, or with your children, or with just yourself. Have yourself a good glass of wine, or beer, or soda, or whatever strikes your fancy. But do not, for God's sake, feel the pressure to do anything else!!! You will have my full and complete endorsement.
On that note, Happy Valentine's Day to all!
